Learn to Identify Macular Degeneration Symptoms
Macular degeneration is a disease of the eye which can cause severe vision impairment. Macular degeneration occurs when there is damage to the retina. This particular form of vision impairment affects the macula, or center of the eye, hence the name. This part of the eye gives the most complete vision. Macular degeneration is caused by several ailments and diseases, as well as age and family history.
Macular degeneration tends to lead to an inability to see clearly. Perception of people and things, when looked at directly, is damaged, although peripheral vision may remain the same as before. Distorted or shadowy vision or a change in the color of the eyes are often some of the first signs of this disease. Luckily, there are some treatments for this problem. Some drugs are approved to treat specific types of macular degeneration. A diet rich in Omega-3 fatty acids is also thought to help in treating the disease.
